Theft Aware Software for Cell Phones

Theft Aware is a pretty impressive application for cell phones. I decided to purchase it, and test it out on my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic cell phone.

It’s relatively easy to setup and has some well thought out functions. Once installed and setup correctly, the application becomes totally invisible while active on the phone. This is important because you don’t want anyone else to access the software and disable or un-install it.

If your phone is stolen or lost, there are a host of different SMS commands you can send to your phone which is very useful. Additional to this, if your phone is stolen and the SIM card is changed, the phone will notify you via SMS to the cell numbers you setup for notifications.

You can lock the phone remotely via SMS, which locks the phone (obviously) and sets off a siren with a voice saying “THIS PHONE IS STOLEN OR LOST!” (Default siren sound – you can choose any other sound or tone from your phone, I like the default one though).

You can also locate your phone via GPS co-ordinates by sending it an SMS, it will then SMS you back with the co-ordinates plus other info about your phone like Cell ID, Battery level, Signal Strength, New IMSI number and IMEI number, all of which is important info when trying to get your phone back. Accuracy of the co-ordinates is very accurate to within a few meters, but if the phone is in a house or building, accuracy goes out by hundreds of meters which will give you a pretty wide search area.

Other SMS functions also allow you to get your lost phone to call you back, retrieve SMS’s, contacts and call logs.

Theft Aware is cheap, and you buy it once of, it does not expire like some of the other products, it also works on a lot of phone types. To check if your phone is listed, just visit their website at theftaware dot com.

All in all, I like Theft Aware – It’s a really cool application and work very well, an absolute must have for your cell phone protection.

DSTV Drifta

Really? To be quite honest, I was pretty interested in the DSTV Drifta and almost went out and bought one, as soon as they were finally launched here in Namibia. Fortunately two of my colleagues beat me to it and were already setting their new Drifta’s up when I returned to the office. They were both excited as was I, waiting to marvel at this amazingly small gadget and what it could do. DSTV on your IPhone, IPad or laptop. The DSTV Drifta performed amazingly on both the IPhone and IPad, it was pretty cool. Now the IPhone part is a bit ridiculous, come on… watching a DSTV channel on such a small screen, no way! Next up, the IPad… pretty impressive, nice to take with you where ever you go, it works well. Next up, the laptop test. Now bear in mind that I don’t own an IPhone or IPad, so the laptop test was the most important one for me to see. Setup ran smoothly and then… WHAAAAT? Was that it? No matter what they tried to do… all they got was a small window in which to see the program playing in. The window displaying the selected DSTV channel is way smaller than the IPad’s display! They both could not believe their eyes! All this for R599.00? There was a lot of head scratching going on. They both looked like total tit’s who had just been taken for a ride. The embarrassed look on their faces said it all. I shook my head and thought to myself… thank goodness I didn’t rush out and waste my money on the DSTV Drifta. That’s the last I ever saw a Drifta in the office. They are probably gathering dust in some closet or drawer somewhere out of site.

shoX Earphones - The Best!

shoX mini earphones – They are by far the best mini earphones I have ever had in my ears, and here’s why…

The Base! The base in these, are enough to blow you away in awe. I have never come across a pair of mini earphones which have built in base like this. On top of that, the sound in is crystal clear, the best I have ever heard by far! Outside noise is almost non-existent, because the earphones fit so well into your ear. You get 3 different size fitters for your ears. (Tightest fit gives the best sound)
They also don’t fall out easily like most other earphones.

They have the standard jack, so you can use them with iPod’s, some cell phones, MP3 players, and get this… they come with an aircraft entertainment adapter, so you don’t have to use those crummy earphones they hand out on the flight. They also come in a neat storage case.

shoX earphone’s make it seem as if you are inside the music!
