Theft Aware Software for Cell Phones

Theft Aware is a pretty impressive application for cell phones. I decided to purchase it, and test it out on my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic cell phone.

It’s relatively easy to setup and has some well thought out functions. Once installed and setup correctly, the application becomes totally invisible while active on the phone. This is important because you don’t want anyone else to access the software and disable or un-install it.

If your phone is stolen or lost, there are a host of different SMS commands you can send to your phone which is very useful. Additional to this, if your phone is stolen and the SIM card is changed, the phone will notify you via SMS to the cell numbers you setup for notifications.

You can lock the phone remotely via SMS, which locks the phone (obviously) and sets off a siren with a voice saying “THIS PHONE IS STOLEN OR LOST!” (Default siren sound – you can choose any other sound or tone from your phone, I like the default one though).

You can also locate your phone via GPS co-ordinates by sending it an SMS, it will then SMS you back with the co-ordinates plus other info about your phone like Cell ID, Battery level, Signal Strength, New IMSI number and IMEI number, all of which is important info when trying to get your phone back. Accuracy of the co-ordinates is very accurate to within a few meters, but if the phone is in a house or building, accuracy goes out by hundreds of meters which will give you a pretty wide search area.

Other SMS functions also allow you to get your lost phone to call you back, retrieve SMS’s, contacts and call logs.

Theft Aware is cheap, and you buy it once of, it does not expire like some of the other products, it also works on a lot of phone types. To check if your phone is listed, just visit their website at theftaware dot com.

All in all, I like Theft Aware – It’s a really cool application and work very well, an absolute must have for your cell phone protection.
